The implementation of a continuous air quality monitoring system was centered on a project carried out by an association of companies, including NS12, Sigma Consulting, Tagliaferri Sr, Dune Srl, and CNR as the Research Organization associated with the project.

Elements that make up the system:
- A pair of air quality sensors: One measures the quality of the air entering the system, and the other measures the quality of the air exiting the system. The goal is to assess the efficiency level of the system itself and promptly signal the need to clean the filters.
- An innovative antibacterial filter: This improves the quality of the air introduced into enclosed spaces.
- A service management and monitoring system: This is connected via the internet (and local Wi-Fi network) to the sensors and receives a daily flow of information regarding the measurement of significant parameters to determine air quality. This information is analyzed with a patented algorithm, implemented for the first time in this project, which evaluates, based on the collected samples, when the air pollution threshold level is actually exceeded.
- A smartphone app: This is used by the installation technician to send local commands to the sensors during their placement, scheduled maintenance, and removal at the end of the service.
NS12’s Commitment
In this project, the NS12 team developed the sensor management app and the Training Portal (created on the well-known Moodle platform). One of the most interesting aspects of the app was the development of interfaces to the sensors, which have autonomous processing capabilities and use protocols typical of the IoT paradigm.
The Training Portal was designed to provide technicians with audio-video tutorials at any time and on various platforms to reinforce institutional classroom training.
- The project was completed in July 2019
